ya know how you always have that child, that's a little too smart for their own good....

i have one every year...sometimes ya kinda just wanna punch 'em, but sometimes they just stump ya....

well i have this little girl, and she's one of "those". she's already overgrown for her age, at least 6 or 7 inches taller than the rest of the class. and she's quite overweight, so that adds to her largeness amongst these teeny, tiny other 3rd graders that haven't hit their growth spurts yet.

well we were talking about santa claus, and she said that her mom and dad already told her he wasn't real.

I said, "WHAT?!?!?"

#1 I was flabberghasted by the thought of a PARENT revealing such "nonsense". it must be something that's learned on its own but still NEVER EVER EVER spoken aloud...
and #2 HELLO! well c'mon now, don't ruin the whole class's spirt

so anyways, i just said, "well i still believe in santa claus."

she sat there for a min. the other children around me were all talking about how they'd actually "seen" red in their living rooms...flying through the air on Christmas night, etc.

then i hear her mumble something of this sort, "well i do actually believe in a santa claus, but i think he only visits boys and girls that believe in him. and perhaps maybe older people who aren't married and live alone."

well yes, my life sounds pathetic coming out of the mouth of a 9 yr old..

BUT i couldn't figure this one out...

was she saying this with the thought, "hmmm. poor miss swtapplpie! her parents haven't told her yet that santa wasn't real. and she's so old!"

or could it have been this...

her parents told her santa wasn't real, but deep down inside she still wants to be the kid and still believe...though her size (and intellect) allow her to know more, be told more, and almost have to grow up faster.so she was just saying this almost just to fit in because she almost just doesn't.

i hope its the latter, even though its the "sadder"...haha, i'm such a poet. but anyways. hell, i'm 26, i still spend the night with my mom and dad on christmas eve, and santa still comes to see me in the middle of the night....

and alls i got to say is, i'm proud of it!
