Its Snowing!!

02.28.2004 - 3:03 p.m.

wow what a birthday week!

on wednesday night, you know i had my birthday party at my friends' apt. (fondue and very offtune karaoke)...well the weather people were calling for snow...lots of it!

all week, we've had the most beautiful week. sunny, blue skies...60 degree weather or warmer. when they cried snow, i cried "yeah right!" they'd been calling for snow lots lately, and not a single flake has fallen.

stars were out when i went to bed on wednesday night...i had no expectations of snow. well here in the south it doesnt snow very often. we get the occasional "ice storm" that takes out all the power lines and abandons you to your house for days on end.

well thursday morning i get a call from my school's phone tree, "no school today!" and i pull back the blinds to see beautiful white blankets covering the grass, and more falling!

now most of you might refer to it as a "dusting"...being born and raised in the south, i have never heard of the word nor did i know what it was until Amishboy from PA told me one day that it didn't "snow" we just got a "dusting". (my northern friends often had to educate me with the northern or perhaps "rest of the world" lingo that down south we don't speak of)

so what you may be familiar with as a "dusting" is our big snow that calls off school. usually when it snows around here...it snows enough to cover the grounds, stops, and the next day is 70 degrees to melt it all! well it snowed ALL DAY LONG!!!

i've never seen the snow fall for so long, and i swear! in a place of little snow, you remember each occasion very VERY distinctly! this morning (Friday) still no school and the news informs us that our town has now received 8 inches of snow!

its amazing! i've never had so much snow in my front yard before. this phenomenon is just so mind scrambling. i love it!

the last ice storm (approx. 5 weeks ago) let us out of school for 3 days. i spend the entire time sledding my little booty off in the graveyard, and almost killed myself twice!

well this snow is the kind of snow that's so powdery and beautiful. when the wind blows, you see snow blow creating amazingly deep and beautiful snow drifts.

its so cool, and i'm sure i sound so uncultured and retarded, but i love it. (i am a bit sad that we can't sled as well on the powdery stuff, but the beauty takes up for it and the fact that i can still drive on it)

my friends brooke and ama got me a gift certificate to a scrapbooking store for my birthday. i'd never thought of such a gift, but they know how creative i like to be and thought it would fit me...and to tell the truth i love it!! i got started yesterday. i felt it was a better idea than staring out the window with my eyes wide and mouth open all day watching the snow fall like a kid watching for santa claus. i felt rather kiddish and somewhat redneck-ish....hey, can't diss the roots, man....i'm from south carolina and i'm a redneck!

no sorry, the definition of redneck is so different to so many people so i can't really brag on my redneck-isms without really getting across the picture i'd hope for you....

well i'm gone to sled or build a snowman, or perhaps just throw a snowball at my porch...
